NY Mets: 5 Reasons The 2024 Season Won’t Be a Waste Of Time

Everyone seems to feel that during rebuilds, the team is going be insufferable to watch. I personally choose to see the good in every situation I’m faced with. Here’s 5 reasons why the 2024 New York Mets won’t be a waste of your time to watch in person or on TV.

1) Player growth and development- the rookies and sophomores are our future.

The New York Mets have a few guys who are the youth core, such as Third Baseman Brett Baty, 24, Catcher Fransisco Alvarez, 22, DH/Third Baseman Mark Vientos, 24, and SS/3B Ronny Mauricio, 22. While Mauricio is shelved the remainder of 2024 due to an ACL tear during the offseason, Baty looks to take over the majority of the workload and prove he’s the man for the starting 3B daily job.

2) Rebuild mode may be tough, but the end result and reward is long term success.

While it’s not ideal, some teams opt for the lengthy rebuild, parting ways with nearly all of their superstar talent for an overall fresh and younger team. Sure, it may seem drastic, but it’s helped so many teams achieve long term success. The Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs are the most recent to do it, with the Mets also following suit last season. Change is vital and necessary sometimes. New faces and better results is the ultimate goal.

3) It’s a showcase for Pete Alonso to earn his lifetime contract mega-deal with the Mets.

Every Mets fan should recognize hard work and true talent. Alonso, 29, has given the organization 5 years of pure dedication. Being a 3x All-Star, the 2x home run derby champion, and the 2019 Rookie of the Year award winner, it’s safe to say he’s earned everything and deserves to be paid what he wants. Being that he’s in the walk year of his contract, and his agent is none other than Scott Boras, Alonso is seemingly looking to prove his worth and make the Mets pay him a contract similar to the Yankees’ Aaron Judge, 9 years, $360 million dollars.

That being said, expect Alonso to have a monster season, in which he puts up numbers close to historical and or possibly making history.

4) It’s a good time to enjoy food and drinks at a reasonable price.

The team should be mediocre at best, so it’s to be expected that tickets shouldn’t be expensive at all. CitiField has some of the best cuisine baseball fans can enjoy. Who doesn’t love a day at the ballpark with family and friends along with good food and a cold beer?

5) The expectations are set very low, so some players may exceed yours and surprise many!

The team isn’t expected to reach the playoffs until roughly 2026. Some players will thrive where others will struggle, and that’s a given for any team. However, some Mets that you might expect not as much from could rebound and prove everyone wrong. The team could potentially do better than expected as a result.

These 5 reasons may or may not convince you, but it’s worth remembering that these players give their all for the team they play for. Yes, it’s a business at the end of the day, and the argument that there’s no loyalty to the team could be valid. Remember Wilmer Flores? Pepperidge farm remembers. That man’s tears after learning of a trade (botched) propelled the 2015 team to a World Series appearance. Don’t underestimate these players.
