The New York Mets have been linked to one in particular free agent’s name this offseason. While some people might say ‘Why not?” here’s why.
Enter Luis Severino, a pitcher with a history of many injuries. Severino, although only 29, has only played in 26 games since his Yankees’ debut, mostly due to getting hurt, dealing a slew of injuries such as rotator cuff inflammation, Tommy John surgery, and a few lat strains among other injuries.
In 2023 he went 4-8 with a 6.65 ERA also sporting a horrid -1.5 WAR.
That is downright awful.
The next player is more of a off the field decision, as per past arrests, such as domestic violence and a DUI, yes, the Mets would see a huge lineup offsensive boost, hitting 40 home runs but is it worth the potential headache regarding the legal woes? Absolutely not.
All in all, the team should not take a flyer on Ozuna and Severino. Let another team worry about the injuries and legal issues.
