NY Mets: Steve Cohen is Ridiculous To Not Extend Superstar Pete Alonso NOW

Rumor has it that the 2024 New York Mets are eyeing Aroldis Chapman, of all people. When it comes to star slugger and 2x Home Run Derby Champion first baseman Pete Alonso, however, crickets.

Alonso, 29, is in the walk year of his Mets deal and rumors were hot about the slugger being dealt to the Chicago Cubs, who eyed Alonso with increased interest. The market heated up this offseason with big names such as Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as all were looking, and Snell still, to sign with a team. Ohtani being one of the gameโ€™s most valuable players, with a 10.0 WAR, 44 home runs hit, 95 RBIs, and a .304 batting average last year, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. No shocker, he preferred to stay on the West coast, thanks to a tip I recieved from my insider sources and I was sworn to secrecy.

However, not much is known surrounding Alonsoโ€™s destination. Since the star first baseman is a fan favorite in the Big Apple, trading him or letting him slip away to sign elsewhere would simply infuriate the orange and blue clad fans.

Alonso gave the organization 5 impressive seasons. In 2023, a 3.2 WAR, hitting 46 Home Runs, 118 RBIs, batting .217 with a .318 OBP.

Career wise, Alonso hit 192 home runs, 498 RBIs, with a 251 batting average and a .342 OBP, winning NL Rookie of the Year in 2019.

Billionaire owner Steve Cohen is absolutely absurd to think about trading this man or letting him walk. Itโ€™s a poor business decision and I understand his agent is Scott Boras, who can be an absolute pain to deal with. However, the rumors of trading Alonso are cringe worthy and Cohen should be ashamed of himself for dragging this out. This behavior says it all to the fans, they donโ€™t want to win, pay their talent and the fans do not matter.
