NY Mets: 6 Players To Watch On Opening Day 2024

The 2024 New York Mets season begins on March 29th against the Milwaukee Brewers. Here’s 6 Mets that you will want to keep an eye on during the game and also the series matchup.

1. Fransisco Lindor, Shortstop.

What’s great is that Lindor has gotten better as the years go by here in the big apple. From having a very rough 2021 to putting up the following numbers in 2023: 31 home runs, 98 RBIs, a .254 batting average and a .336 OBP.

2. Brett Baty, Third Base.

After the news of teammate and counterpart 3B Ronny Mauricio getting injured in winter ball, the team had no other choice but to name Brett Baty the next man up to defend the hot corner. Baty, 24, looks to have a bounce back year in just his second season in MLB.

3. J.D. Martinez, DH.

The team signed DH Martinez to a one year deal this month. Martinez, 36, put up quality numbers with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. Martinez wowed, hitting 33 home runs, 103 RBIs, batting .271 with a .321 OBP. Expect him to deliver and contribute big.

4. Jeff McNeil, Second Base.

McNeil faltered in 2023, going off the map completely after winning the NL batting title in 2022. McNeil looks to have a bounce back year as well. It’s now or never for some guys, and McNeil will be put to the test early on.

5. Pete Alonso, First Base.

In case you’ve missed it, Pete Alonso, 29, is in the walk year of his contract in Queens. Alonso, a three time All-Star, two time Home Run Derby Champion, and the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year award winner, looks to have a season similar to the historic one of Aaron Judge in which he broke Roger Maris’ home runs in a season record. Can he do it for the mega deal? Stay tuned.

6. Edwin Diaz, Closer.

Cue the trumpets, Edwin Diaz is back in action! The 30 year old missed all of 2023 after tearing his ACL before last season in the Worls Baseball Classic. Diaz was nothing short of spectacular in 2022. He boasted a 3-1 record with 32 saves and a 1.31 ERA. The Mets may end up seeing Diaz return to elite form. He’s totally worth watching for.

These 6 Mets are head turners that you don’t want to miss on Opening Day. I can only speak for myself, I really want to watch this first game so badly!
