The 2026 New York Mets have been playing some better baseball as of late, although they are still in last place in the NL East division standings.
I understand the fact that owner Steve Cohen values the idea of team efforts and all contributing. It doesn’t mean I agree with it as a whole.
While it takes everyone on a team to pitch in and do their share, every team naturally has a leader.
Players often gravitate to the mentally strong, the resilient, and the exceptionally gifted athletes.
The Mets haven’t had a team captain since David Wright.
Wright was a leader on and off the field. While the third baseman had his career cut short due to Spinal Stenosis, the team was more poised to contend deep with a leader such as Wright.
It’s unnerving that the team won’t appoint Francisco Lindor team captain.
It’s downright devastating. Lindor is exceptionally gifted, and he’s always seen with a smile. He never gets into trouble off the field, and the Mets are simply wasting his abilities to lead a franchise.
If you ask me, the Mets deserve to be laughed at.
They have the pieces. They just don’t know how to build a winning franchise.
