The New York Mets second and third baseman Jonathan Villar comes up clutch when it really matters, making the injury ridden Mets happy in tough times. Here is a look at what Villar has done so far in the orange and blue and also career-wise.
Villar, who sports an 0.4 WAR, has 3 home runs so far, 11 batted in, with a .225 batting average in his first season in Flushing, is a great asset to this offensively famished Mets team. You cannot say his career numbers are not nothing short of impressive either. Hereโs a look at what Villar has done in his 9 year tenure in the bigs: over the past 9 years, Villar has hit 83 home runs with 294 batted in. Villar has not been on many overall successful teams, yet however he has managed to put together key at bats and come through when heโs needed. Itโs safe to say Villar seems to get on base more often than not so far in his time in New York. That is a blessing because your OBP is a critical part of where you are placed in the lineup from 1. an analytical standpoint 2. If you are managing a professional team and youโre using an optimized lineup over a standard lineup I believe the player with the highest OBP hits 5th or 6th, however I could be wrong. I personally think the sky is the limit for Villar in New York, he fits in perfectly and the fans really appreciate his hard work and solid efforts to keep the team rolling.
