There has been a drastic change in the bullpen in Queens. A few players are really redeeming themselves as of late, but one name has always been a helpful part of the team.
Seth Lugo has briefly started, but his role fits perfectly in the bullpen. โRight now we have a deep bullpen,โ Rojas said. โWe can play around with some things.โ – source, New York Daily News, in an article written by Matthew Roberson.
Well, take for one the incredible transformation from a nearing 7.00 ERA by Joey Lucchesi, having nearly decreased that by half. Take into consideration Diaz. Half of these guys really could not get the key outs last year, and when they did throw strikes, they were hit hard.
So Iโm sure you wonder why I highlighted Lugo to be the main storyline of this article. Lugo has always been helpful. Letโs take a look at what heโs done in the orange and blue uniform.
With the exception of an unfortunate 2020, which seemed to be the only year Lugo regressed, *heavily* Lugo has a 1.59 ERA this season, in 5 games heโs pitched in. In 2019, he was solid, solid enough to earn an A in my grade book, he went 7-4 with a 2.70 ERA. I mean, looking further back, in 2016 he had a 2.67 ERA and in 2018 a 2.66 ERA.
Thereโs not much else you can ask for that Lugo isnโt providing the Mets. Lugo has been a solid reliever/ pitcher most of his Mets tenure, while others around him couldnโt handle the tasks he could. You have to definitely give credit to Lugo. Iโm not trying to distract you from the fact that most of the guys who struggled last season are making a huge comeback, Iโm just trying to say that Lugo has shown us all along what heโs capable of doing to better this team, and it deserves more recognition than it sometimes gets.
