New York Mets reliever and occasional starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi underwent Tommy John surgery yesterday; here’s what it means for the Mets as it might be quite some time before we see the churve back in action.
Lucchesi had a near 9.50 ERA to start a horrific season, which resulted in him decreasing that by almost 3 times. He seemed to turn things around when he was scratched with an injury, later revealing a UCL tear, and he decided to undergo Tommy John surgery.
I’d say this is a huge blow to the Mets because the bullpen really is important and the Mets cannot afford to blow games. If the Mets look to contend deep, they’re gonna need the bullpen crew healthy. Lucchesi may not have had the best beginning however he wowed towards the end.
The Churve will be missed, and someone has to step up and fill his shoes. As if the Mets don’t already have enough injuries. Just keep the replacements at this point. Yikes!
