The New York Mets know that one or two players is all it takes to turn a fourth place team into a contender. Hereโs why Javier Baez is a must keep and re-sign come the off-season.
It seems Javy Baez can do it all: sharp, elite defensive plays, solid offensive production, and impressive baserunning.
There are guys willing to play for the Mets just because Javier Baez and Fransisco Lindor don the orange and blue uniform now.
Hereโs a look at Baez offensively this season.
So far, Baez is batting .248 with 6 home runs and 11 driven in as a New York Met, although altogether he has 22 home runs and 65 batted in Chicago.
Baez is also sporting a 3.6 WAR.
Baez is no doubt a top 10 in the league, inching close to a top 5. Heโs not a top 5 but is definitely a top 10 offensive player and defensively he might actually be the best shortstop in the league behind Fransisco Lindor.
Itโs time to have that discussion about what Baez brings to the table. Baez has one major notable flaw in his game, however, and that is the strikeouts.
Would you like to see the Baez strikeout statistics? Here, I can pull that up for you.
Baez has a 36.3 SO% in a Chicago Cubs uniform, followed by a 30.5% in a Mets uniform. Last season Baez owned a 35.1 SO%.
It is different for sure to go from a cellar dwelling selling Cubs franchise to a team that can potentially make the playoffs with one of the richest owners in baseball.
All in all, Javyโs no ordinary player. If the Mets look to keep their leads in games, and possibly gain some, they need to pay this man.
