The New York Mets have no room for slacking players in 2024; the first order of business this current offseason should be building a competitive lineup and pitching rotation both. With quite a few trade deadline deals having been made last season, itโs time the team makes one move in particular thatโs been long overdue.
Struggling outfielder Starling Marte, 35, is making all of $19,500,00 in 2024 and 2025 both, and his numbers simply are not reflective of his contract.
This past year, Marte disappointed with a -0.8 WAR, in 315 at bats he managed 78 hits, hitting 5 home runs, 28 RBIs, batting .248 with a .301 OBP.
In 2016 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, a career year for Marte, he hit 9 home runs, 46 RBIs, with a .311 batting average and a .362 OBP.
Marte is very well not making any case for himself to be trade bait and remains a โliabilityโ in the eyes of many Mets fans.
It would be wise to eat the money and cut the losses in the long run,
