The 2024 New York Mets are doing big things, sitting pretty in third place with a 65-60 record. While they are still in a great position as far as the wild card is concerned, the one thing thatโs always gone their way is the development of sophomore year catcher Fransisco Alvarez, 22. Hereโs why the team really found a good one.
Alvarez is a sophomore year catcher who really already displays all the qualities of a well developed major league player. He made his adjustment to MLB look effortless. Framing pitches admirably coupled with incredible offensive capabilities in just his first year, letโs take a look at the stats.
In 2023, he hit 25 home runs and 63 RBIs, batting .209 with a .284 OBP.
This season, heโs got a 0.8 WAR with 6 home runs, 28 RBIs, batting .253 with a .318 OBP.
This is all what makes Alvarez such a rare commodity and an amazing contributor to this needy Mets team.
The Mets are indeed blessed to have developed Alvarez and kept him to be the backstop of the future.
