NY Mets: Projected Player Of The Month of September

The 2024 New York Mets are in third place with a 74-64 record, and 0.5 games back in the wild card race. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games, with players such as Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, Pete Alonso and Fransisco Lindor emerging as leaders statistically this season. Hereโ€™s a look at who is likely to be named Septemberโ€™s Player of the Month, Mets baseball.

While it was a clear and deserving nod to be given to Lindor last month, his teammate Alonso, 29, has a strong case heโ€™s building as well. Alonso is in the walk year of his 5 year deal in New York, heโ€™s chosen to bet on himself and earn the mega deal that Aaron Judge historically did in 2019.

Alonso is a 4x All Star, a 2x Home Run Derby Champion, and the 2019 NL Rookie of the Year award winner.

In 2019, Alonso hit 53 home runs, 120 RBIs, batting .260 with a .358 OBP.

Heโ€™s given the team 5 plus years of hard work, solid leadership and quality defense.

He impressed in 2022, hitting 40 home runs and 131 RBIs.

This season, Alonso has a 2.0 WAR, having hit 30 home runs and 76 RBIs so far, batting .241 with a .325 OBP.

I expect Alonso to complete with New York Yankees Outfielder Aaron Judge, putting the offensive capabilities on full display this September. Judge is on a historic pace of his own, and Alonso has unfinished business here in Queens in regards to his contract and the possibility of becoming a Met for life.

Heโ€™s obviously wanting to play for the team if the years and salary are right, as Alonso has expressed his interest in being here.

Whether or not he gets the lifetime contract, one thing remains a fact. Alonso is going to have to earn it. I expect him to follow suit this month.
