NY Mets: The Unfortunate Reality And Questions Surrounding Pete Alonso

This blog post is not going to be in article format. I’m not looking to post as a news reporter right now I’m trying to relay a message to you heart to heart.

We all could be dense and say Alonso is a terrible player. He “has done nothing” for the team when in retrospect he’s given the team 6 solid and wonderful years. Sure, 2024 he’s disappointed, I’ll be the first to admit. However, I believe one below subpar season seems reasonable for the 2019 NL Rookie of the Year, a 4x All Star and a 2x Home Run Derby Champion.

Everyone is so quick to underestimate players and rip and judge them after one below expectations season. Did we not eat our words about SS Fransisco Lindor this season?

What I’m getting at is, Alonso asked for Aaron Judge type money earlier this year when he rejected the Qualifying Offer because at the time, he undeniably deserved it and the odds were highly in his favor to have another historic year. Being dense as a Mets fan has to be an insufferable life in itself but hearing these dense fans talk like this man is a burden, liability or simply dead weight on this team is appalling.

You can’t sit here and tell me going into 2024 that Alonso choosing to bet on himself is crazy work.

Sure, he’s fallen heavily short of expectations. I personally believe he’ll be back next season. How much is he worth? A lot less, and that’s exactly why him and the Mets will agree. The years? That’s unknown. Alonso’s bounce back?

Time will tell. What I ask of Mets fans is to stop ripping into this man, denying everything he’s done year and year again.
