The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 to eliminate their opponents from the National League Wild Card game. Late game heroics from First Baseman Pete Alonso, 29, capped a remarkable comeback, and the Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies in a 5 game NLDS series coming up.
A go ahead, take the lead blast from Alonso is the reason this team pulled off the victory. Simply put, itโs undeniably obvious that Alonsoโs struggles have been more prominent as of late.
Is Alonso worth the mega deal he desires? In my eyes, I say yes. Being a 2019 NL Rookie of the Year award winner and a 4x All Star, two time Home Run Derby winner, Alonso is definitely allowed one mediocre year.
While players such as Sean Manaea and Fransisco Lindor have gone way above and beyond contributing to the teamโs success this season, Alonso should also be recognized as well. He plays the game with a positive clubhouse mentality and gives the game all heโs got. Heโs a leader in the on and off the field, so overall, I say itโs vital and in the teamโs best interest to keep Alonso long term.
