The 2025 New York Mets have quite a few new additions that are being paid a significant amount financially. When the news broke out that former Washington Nationals and Star Outfielder for the Yankees Juan Soto was inked to a 15 year, $765 million dollar deal, fans began to speculate and form strong opinions. Not all mega deals promise as expected results, ask the Mets about the 2009 signing of Right Fielder Jason Bay. Hereโs three players that have high expectations for the 2025 season.
- Kodai Senga.
Senga, 31, dazzled during his 2023 MLB debut. He went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA, notching 202 strikeouts.
While heavily expected to regress in his sophomore year in Queens, the Japanese starter found himself sidelined due to injuries, eventually being shut down for more than half of 2024.
Senga therefore has to prove in 2025 that he can stay healthy and top 2023, as far as his pitching is concerned. The team is needy for efficient and effective starting options, and it is now or never for Senga.
2. Juan Soto.
Soto, 26, is a formidable offensive part of the lineup, very similar to the type of player Shortstop Francisco Lindor is. Although both key pieces have similar things they bring to the franchise and have similar expectations due to their respective contracts, Soto will likely really hear it from the media should he regress.
Soto had an incredible 2024. With a 7.9 WAR, he hit 41 home runs with 109 RBIโs, batting .288 with a .419 OBP.
He clearly does his job well, has proven to in New York in the Bronx, and has joined a team that is surely concerned and invested in their future success.
3. Sean Manaea
Manaea, 32, was brought back on a three year deal this 2024 offseason. As I have previously mentioned, the team is desperate for the starting pitching to give quality, grade A starts each time out, and with Manaea being given another opportunity, it is evident that he must deliver.
To put things into perspective, every starting position player must be as promised in 2025. These 3 that Iโve listed are just the top 3 with the highest expectations weighing down on them and the team entering yet another hopeful year.
