NY Mets: Once Again Steve Cohen Is Proving Why Team Is Laughingstock of MLB

Your morning laugh of the day, or cry if you are like me, a New York Mets fan. It’s been reported that free agent star first baseman Pete Alonso, 30, will leave the New York Mets for another team this offseason.

Alonso has also seemingly asked the team for anywhere between 175 to 200 million dollars, speaking on an unspecified amount of years.

After blowing $765 million dollars and a luxury suite for defensively challenged but offensively talented Outfielder Juan Soto, 26, Mr. Cohen is suddenly strapped for cash. This predicament feels a little too familiar for Mets fans, contrary to the promises to “be different and lock up their guys long term” ahem.

Let’s take a look at Alonso career wise.

In his 6 year career here in Queens, he’s hit 226 home runs, 586 RBI, batting .249 with a 339 OBP.

His rookie debut, when the Mets literally had nothing, gave the team promise and hope. In that year of 2019, Alonso hit 53 home runs, 120 RBIs, batting .260 with a .358 OBP.

In 2022, one of his most memorable in the orange and blue, he hit 40 home runs and 131 RBIs, batting .271 with a 352 OBP.

He followed that up in 2023 with another remarkable year, hitting 46 home runs, 118 RBIs batting .217 with a .318 OBP

After choosing to bet on himself for 2024, which was kind of dumb but he could very well have also made a strong case to pull it off, didn’t succeed very well but is asking for 175 to 200 million.

What about that is unreasonable, Mr. Cohen?

Oh I forgot. Sorry. You said your name was Mr. Wilpon.

Same thing. Prove me wrong then. Once again, promises made, no deliver.

Someone will appreciate Alonso. Sadly it won’t be the Mets. The Mets will regret it though.

  1. The Mets are NOT the laughingstock of the major leagues. The White Sox are clearly the worst run organization in sports. Everybody knows it. We suck. The Mets are a contender. The Sox are not even a real pro franchise.
