NY Mets: Three Reasons To Be Optimistic Yet Cautious In 2025

The 2025 New York Mets have gotten so much done this offseason, from inking star outfielder Juan Soto, 26, to a 765 million dollar 15 year deal, to re-signing star first baseman Pete Alonso, 30, to a two year deal. While also the Sean Manaea contract significantly boosts the teamโ€™s depth chart, there are a few reasons to be cautious amid optimistic. Hereโ€™s why.

  1. Despite having the younger guys on the team who are expected to have great seasons, you still canโ€™t be certain they will.

Brett Baty perhaps remains the one with the most to prove. While C Francisco Alvarez looks to contribute significantly much like Mark Vientos, it should be expected that they are still learning the ways to adapt to MLB and with increased expectations on them. You can be hopeful for sure, but even season veterans donโ€™t match up to their expectations.

2. Injuries do happen.

This statement is primarily true of SP Kodai Senga, 31, who had dazzled in his MLB debut in 2023, but couldnโ€™t stay healthy in 2024.

3. Some players such SS Francisco Lindor, who have had huge seasons last year, may simply regress due to the fact that matching or exceeding a spectacular MVP candidate year may be tough.

You cannot simply expect two or three MVP like seasons to happen every year. While I remain a huge fan of Lindor, heโ€™s really put in a lot of hard work and handled his role impressively. It would be awesome if he were to top his 2024, but it shouldnโ€™t be expected.

These statements arenโ€™t made for you to worry, it is more a gentle nudge to bring a dose of reality to those getting their hopes up, putting all their eggs in one basket.

Iโ€™d love to know your feedback, and I invite you to respond with and questions or comments on this blog post. I got up pretty late and yes, itโ€™s time for a Red Bull energy drink. I apologize for not putting out many posts, Iโ€™m simply waiting for opening day and I use the offseason and my days off to market this awesome Mets blog. I understand that some of the comments may disagree with this blog posts, but letโ€™s discuss it. I hope all of my blogโ€™s followers are doing well.
