Hey, it happens.
The Braves ended up getting the best of the Mets last night, 4-3, as ace Jacob DeGrom had an undeniably frustrating outing.
Austin Riley homered off a 100mph pitch from the potential 2021 MVP; and clearly fans speculated that DeGrom hasnโt been the same since being checked for the performance enhancing sticky substances.
Now hear me out: The umpires found nothing each time they checked DeGrom. If DeGrom was cheating, there would be physical evidence. Granted, there are other ways, however, weโre talking spider tack.
So rest assured DeGrom is as clean as a whistle.
DeGrom took his frustrations out in the dugout after that home run by Riley, visibly upset, and also over the miscommunication with the catcher.
Is it fair to criticize a pitcher who has been lights out dominant for at least three consecutive seasons or more, for ONE SHAKY OUTING? Absolutely not. If you are indeed criticizing DeGrom, you must ask yourself, what exactly hasnโt he done to prove he is the best pitcher in baseball, and, what on earth are you even expecting of the guy? Your expectations are far far far too high, because DeGrom has been lights out dominant nearly every outing this season.
DeGrom recently owned a 0.69 ERA, even lower. 0.51.
That should suggest to you that heโs done incredibly well, and wow, yes, he is human. If youโre a Mets fan and youโre still upset at DeGrom over this, please allow me to refer you to someone who has the patience to argue with the uneducated.
