The 2021 New York Mets are 47-40 with a first place lead in the NL East, here’s why the Mets must stay on track amid playoff contention talks.
The Mets are having a surprisingly good season following a huge offseason. The off-season was capped off by a massive mega deal to Shortstop Fransisco Lindor, followed by a huge contract to catcher James McCann.
However, he finally picked up his hitting, and Lindor now is on fire. Here’s his stats this season. 11 home runs, 36 batted in, and a .227 batting average. Those stats are the product of a rather cold start only, as given the fact that Lindor could have had much better offensive numbers had he hit the ball better from the jump.
Things only seemed to trend in the right direction, despite the fact that Lindor cooled off at the plate.
The Mets have only two World Series appearances after 2000, which came in 2006 and 2015, respectively. It’s safe to assume the Mets fan base is a tortured one, and with new Owner Steve Cohen in the building, it’s clear the fans want results. These Mets have a solid team this season. Despite the injuries coming at nearly every position on the field, manager Luis Rojas seemed to have control over the season. These Mets are going places, so, it’s only necessary that they hold it together to potentially reach the ultimate goal.
