The 2024 New York Mets got one hit on Opening Day. The final score was 3-1 Brewers, with the lone Mets hit being a Starling Marte solo shot.
The Mets have a history of starting out strong in April then cooling down late in the season, example given 2022 and 2023. The Mets could afford to start off slow and then get hot late in the season or in the middle of the year while continuing the pace.
The Mets know better than anyone that consistency is key. Coming up short late in the year despite a hot beginning, well thatโs because they started off good and tired themselves out.
Challenges and injuries are going to happen to any team. The Mets are no exception. I personally think it is wise to start off semi cool then pick up the pace mid season.
The team is notorious for being โApril championsโ. why not try a different approach when the one you use all the time constantly blows up in your face despite all your efforts?
What I am saying is, the cold start shouldnโt necessarily alarm anyone. In fact, it suggests that better times are on their way up ahead.
