The 2024 New York Mets haven’t had the easiest start to the season thus far- the team had to snap an 0-4 skid, with a 2 win streak in which they celebrated. They also notably celebrated a base hit that was routine, halting a stop of a hit less streak, an obvious low point in the team’s history.
Several key players are slumping, notably Shortstop Fransisco Lindor, who was projected to potentially have a breakout season after a monstrous 2022 and 2023 both.
In 2022, Lindor bounced back from a rocky first season in New York. He hit 26 home runs with 107 batted in with a .270 batting average and a .339 OBP. He followed that up in 2023 with 31 home runs and 98 RBIs, batting .254 with a .336 OBP.
That’s impressive to say the least. Lindor has shown us that he has the perseverance to come back from difficult times.
This season hasn’t been so nice to Lindor, who is sporting a -0.4 WAR, with 3 hits, 1 home run, 2 RBIs, with a .0.75 batting average so far in 40 at bats.
While this may sound concerning, it is to be said that not everyone stays ice cold all season. Better times could be on the horizon for the star shortstop, as tough times don’t often last forever.
I’d rather see Lindor start out cold then pick up the pace as the time goes on. Sometimes the tough times are a representation of injury or something else not seen to the naked eye. The fans only know as much as the media will report. You could only really speculate at the end of the day.
To summarize things, yes Lindor doesn’t look so great offensively right at this very moment. However, it’s concerning yet also it’s something that can absolutely change. Give him time. After all, he of most players definitely deserves it.
