The 2024 fourth place, 22-30 .423 New York Mets have not impressed this month of May. Itโs very safe to say thereโs going to be a ton of changes this trade deadline. From ice cold performances by multiple starting position players to injury news that is disheartening, thereโs very few players who make the team watchable. Hereโs one who has been a sight for sore eyes.
Enter Brandon Nimmo, 31, Center Fielder. Nimmo is not only a defensive standout for the teamโs potentially lackluster outfield, heโs simply a leader within the organization on and off the field.
For the past few years, Brandon Nimmo has provided the Mets with quality defense and solid fundamentals at the plate. Hereโs a look at Nimmo in his 9 year career in Queens.
Over the past 9 years donning the orange and blue, Nimmo has done well with 94 home runs, 310 RBIs, batting .217 with a .356 OBP.
As far as his month of May, the splits will tell you heโs done a phenomenal job particularly in this month alone. He looks to stay in Queens, avoiding being traded at the deadline.
Heโs hit 4 home runs and drove in 11 runs, batting .230 with a .352 OBP.
You can ask for excellence from a natural like Nimmo and youโll get it. Nimmo recently homered to walk off a game as well, playing hero once again.
In conclusion, the Mets donโt have a lot of players meeting expectations. In fact, many are way below their projections. However, finding Nimmo just happened to be the blessing that the organization has achieved.
I give the nod to Nimmo as Mayโs player of the month, Mets baseball. Congratulations Brandon Nimmo!
