The 2026 New York Mets are in 3rd place in the NL East. What hurts the team the most in my honest opinion and overall assessment is the lack of offensive production from essential established stars. When I say that, SS Francisco Lindor comes to mind. While his initial slow start may just be temporary, it is a beautiful thing when unexpected players do exceed expectationsA. Here is why the Mets need to keep Catcher Luis Torrens around if they want to win ballgames.
Torrens, 29, has 4 RBI and is batting .263 with a .316 SLG in 19 plate appearances.
Last season, he hit 5 home runs and 29 RBI batting .226. with a .284 OBP.
The fact of the matter remains, when put to the test, Torrens delivers. While C Fransisco Alvarez is the primary starter, Torrens is a key part of this Mets team that is becoming more prominent. Torrens gives depth and value, while he was brought here to be a backup, he makes the argument that he could also potentially be a starter over Alvarez a valid one.
In the grand scheme of things, Torrens displays power, consistency, and peak athleticism behind the backstop. His potential to change the outcome of a game atop the solid defensive abilities he possesses is vital to this team, and they should not let him go.
