NY Mets: Three Things That Must Change In Order To Win A World Series

The 2026 New York Mets are doing absolutely dreadful, with a record of 22-32, .407 in last place in the National League East division. Itโ€™s evident the acquisitions of Third Baseman Bo Bichette, Second Baseman Marcus Semien, and Outfielder Juan Soto have barely scratched the surface at helping the team. Hereโ€™s Three things the team MUST do differently and change in order to even win a World Series in ten years.

  1. David Stearns MUST be relieved of his role as President of Baseball Operations Immediately.

His awful decision making and trade decisions are appalling and outright putrid. When looking at bad decision after bad decision, player after player that has walked away, been traded away, etc, all fingers can be pointed directly at the one responsible. Stearns is single handedly responsible for the unfortunate collapse and downfall of this season, to name one, but his wrongs are far too many. Itโ€™s time to part ways. How he even has a job is laughable.

2. Homegrown talent MUST be retained and re-signed when contracts are up, no ifs ands or buts.

The fact that star First Baseman Pete Alonso has been able to walk away to the Baltimore Orioles without even being offered an extension is unfathomable. The disrespect shown to the 2019 NL Rookie of the Year, 5x All-Star, and 2x Home Run Derby Champion was so loud. The fact that Edwin Diaz is now on the Los Angeles Dodgers, despite his now legal woes, then, youโ€™d have called the Mets crazy for not bringing him back.

Whatโ€™s done in the dark always comes to light. Whether the toxic environment was the issue or not, the players are dealing with management who clearly is incapable of making good decisions. Some players such as Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo may have had to go, although Nimmo was a huge part of the franchise and is dearly appreciated, others did not have to go. Whatโ€™s to be mentioned is that the environment is so dark and gloomy, the players all feel it. Whoโ€™s to blame? Whoโ€™s leading? Exactly.

3. Core Values must be re-established and re-defined.

I feel like these guys donโ€™t know what it takes to be and represent the team. While Cohen wants no captain, thatโ€™s precisely the issue.

One man must clearly understand what it takes to be a leader. Management hasnโ€™t a leader, they have a bunch of inept and incompetent people making bad decisions.

The players need to gravitate to someone. I always felt Francisco Lindor was the face of the New York Mets. When you think about it, if you led the New York Mets, what would you want them to stand for? These core values and principles are about politics and political figures, it seems the organization wants to be known for everything other than winning ballgames. When I look at the potential core beliefs and principles they could implement, I think of โ€œBuilt on Nostalgia, now fitting the winning aesthetic.โ€

If youโ€™re wondering what that means, the aesthetic is the feel of something. Nostalgia refers to 1969, 1986. This was the last time Mets fans saw victory that meant something.

The culture needs to change. If they donโ€™t start today, they wonโ€™t win anything in decades.
