The first place New York Mets are on a tear. Being the first team in MLB this season to reach 20 wins, thereโs a lot of good, with the question marks remaining scarce and few.
Did my decision for Player Of The Month of April make you satisfied? I firmly believe in my heart that Luis Torrens was the most deserving candidate.
Next, I plan to talk about the guy who was in absence when Torrens, 28, stole the show in April.
Catcher Fransisco Alvarez, 23, started most of the season sidelined due to injury.
His 2024 was quite impressive, to say the least. The talented then sophomore proved to have breakout candidate written all over him.
He played in 100 games, having hit 11 home runs 47 RBI, and batted .237 with a .307 OBP.
I personally think that Alvarez may have unfinished business or something to prove. His potential โchip on his shoulder,โ could be the driving force behind a breakout or seemingly very productive May.
I believe that Alvarez will feel the upmost pressure to enter his name into league leading and power hitting conversations. His potential to change the game with one swing is highly underrated, so it makes obvious sense that he should put some runs on the board this month of May.
To put things into perspective, Alvarez has things to prove, and to say that Torrens did his job well is a complete understatement. In fact, Torrens proved slightly to outdo his teammate and fellow catcher counterpart, so this has to be kept in mind. Alonso, Soto and Lindor surely have made names for themselves over the years, so the real power ad abilities that Alvarez can display might come into effect this May. Heโs already showcased a small sample size of his ability to hit home runs with power atop elite backstop skills and a strong arm with solid framework. Time tells all, and letโs hope Alvarez can get his job done.
