NY Mets: 3 Things To Appreciate Right Now As a Fan

The first place, 45-27, .625 New York Mets have a lot to be thankful for. First off, it’s June, and the team is still rocking and rolling. While it’s still somewhat early on in the year, here’s 3 things you can appreciate from the Mets thus far.

3. David Peterson’s complete game.

On June 11th, SP David Peterson, 29, dazzled in a complete game shutout. In 13 games he owns a 5 – 2 record with a 2.49 ERA and has notched 71 strikeouts.

Durable pitchers are a dying breed. Peterson exceeding expectations is great while counterparts of the rotation like Kodai Senga can’t prove themselves and are falling apart due to injuries.

Hints of vintage Jacob DeGrom are returning for DeGrom while not on the Mets, but during his time in New York, he was spectacular then was nagged by various ailments.

This could be the fault of the strength and conditioning staff, which I’ve said for years. It’s a miracle he’s great elsewhere.

Hint.

2. Pete Alonso just keeps swinging for the fences.

While given the doubt of the matter financially, and publicly at that, the offseason was a tough one for Alonso, 30. Despite being signed to a 2 year, 54 million dollar deal with an opt out option after 2025, he put in that work this year.

This season, Alonso has a 2.8 WAR, hit 17 home runs and 63 RBI, batting .293 with a .390 OBP.

This is huge.

  1. The Mets are usually folded and falling apart this time of the year, and Juan Soto has just begun to heat up.

Soto, 26, is a huge difference maker in any game and his ability to make an impact offensively was noted last year in the Bronx. Sure, the transition to a cleaner ballpark and nicer air took time to get used to, because being in an uptight and environment with fans who can berate you on bad days can be traumatic. Soto is just beginning to recover his swing, which will propel the Mets. Also with SS Francisco Lindor having a great year, the team is covered at all positions with the sophomore class doing a phenomenal job as well.

Overall, the team has so many checkmarks filled and few questions to answer. No team is perfect, but this one appears to be headed in the right direction.
