NY Mets: Top 3 Trades the Team Should Make at Trade Deadline

The 2025 New York Mets have a lot of room for improvement. Having started off being the first team to 20 wins, their April success quickly faded away. Being 57-44 in second place seems good, but there is still work to be done.

1. Trading Francisco Alvarez while you have a solid catcher in clutch Luis Torrens seems actually very hopeful, as Torrens is 29 and has provided the much needed boost, atop showcasing his exceptional abilities to defend and throw out runners on the basepaths.

2. Trading Jeff McNeil.

Youโ€™re probably wondering why I say this.

With a few young hopefuls in the picture, such as Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, Ronny Mauricio and LuisAngel Acuna, there is an opportunity across the infield for 3 of these.

If Vientos defends the hot corner, while Baty makes the potential switch to second, or perhaps even Vientos DH while LuisAngel Acuna or Ronny Mauricio play third, thereโ€™s plenty of chances and opportunity for all 3 to start. Understandly, Lindor is our starting shortstop, but, McNeil is aging. Him taking up a roster lineup spot while contributing the bare minimum and touting horrific numbers can prove costly.

3. Trading to get another SP.

This is a deadline must, simply because Senga and Megill are hurt at the moment, an already questionable rotation needs solidifying. Perhaps the return for Alvarez, who is only 25, can be significant enough to land in a big name pitcher.

To put things into perspective, all options should be listened to, considered and there should be โ€œfew exceptionsโ€ at the trade deadline. This involves some untouchables, such as Alonso, Lindor, and Soto. Everyone else should be deemed โ€œon the trading blockโ€ as you simply cannot keep everyone, no matter how much you personally appreciate them. At the end of the day, baseball is a business. Making power moves to represent the name on the front is all that should matter.
