NY Mets: Team Expressed Desire To Bring Pete Alonso Back

The 2026 New York Mets have yet to be built, in a formative way of speaking. The team is opting for a youthful approach, with having said that Third Baseman Brett Baty, 26, will likely see a good amount of action at the hot corner compared to the previous years. With that being said, the team has addressed the possibility of Alonso, 30, being inked, and that they would like him to stay in Queens, hereโ€™s more about why itโ€™s so essential.

Alonso is not your typical first baseman. Sure, itโ€™s a known attribute that first baseman are notorious for being power hitting, primarily lefties, I could go on.

What makes Alonso the standout is truly his power and the leadership he brings. If youโ€™ve ever watched the Home Run Derbyโ€™s, you could see a very focused expression on the starโ€™s face, as he sits quietly pondering the outcome.

You might call it โ€œhis World Seriesโ€ but in reality, itโ€™s his drive and dedication that stuns the fans.

Itโ€™s simply a mix of his effortless top tier playing abilities and his admirable focus and determination that makes a Mets- Alonso lifetime deal seem so desirable.

I really canโ€™t think of too much, but the fact that heโ€™s a 5x All Star, a 2x Home Run Derby champ, plus being the 2019 NL Rookie of the Year award winner while endearing himself to Mets faithful? Thatโ€™s going to be very hard to replace. Someone of that caliber will definitely have a breakout year on another team, which is overdue for Alonso.

Projected to have one of the best years to come is something every player dreams about, aside from becoming a World Series Champion. Unfinished business is still lingering in Queens. The Mets were eliminated from playoff contention last season. Fans speculated the future of Alonso, after a photo of him and Shortstop Francisco Lindor went viral. In the photo, an upset Lindor was seen embracing Alonso, who looked rather displeased.

Iโ€™d be upset too if that was how the season ended.

What Iโ€™m getting at is, Alonso is homegrown talent with a deep love for playing in New York. I personally find it very wise of him to opt out, scrub the Mets from his instagram profile, because his demands need to be met this time. Heโ€™s done this before, which truly makes me believe, that as a client of none other than Scott Boras, heโ€™s playing the numbers game now.

Now, the ball is in the court of billionaire owner Steve Cohen. Alonso has stated his desires to opt out, but team officials have expressed a want for him to stay.

In due time, Cohen needs to graciously apologize to Alonso and make things right.
